Local Impact of Our Mission

Komen Northwest NC is on a mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. How?

  • Grant programs that support survivors, pre-vivors, and co-survivors.
  • Educating our local community about breast cancer risk factors, the importance of early detection and the resources that are available to them.
What We Do Locally

Komen Northwest NC is the local source for grant programs that provide breast health services, breast cancer education and outreach in our 11-county service area.

We empower the communities of our service area with information about the importance of early detection and breast health. 75% of net funds raised stays local for screening and diagnostic services, breast health education outreach programs, support for survivors, co-survivors, pre-vivors and their families.

Since 2001, we have invested more than $5.5 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in our 11-county service area and contributed over $2.1 million to national research grants.

The Difference We Make in Our 11 Counties

Komen Northwest NC is dedicated to educating residents in our service area about breast health, including importance of early detection. Through the grant program, funding is provided for life-saving screening and diagnostics. We connect residents to the many resources that are available. In 2013, our grants served 15,337 people, providing 1,915 clinical breast exams, 2,532 mammograms, and discovered 39 breast cancers here in Northwest NC.

We are here for our community. We live here, we work here, we save lives here, and we make an impact here. Whether you are a survivor, pre-vivor, co-survivor, family, or friend, we are here for you.
