Sweet Treat to Make Positive Local Impact
|ASHEVILLE, N.C., September 7, 2016 – SUBWAY® restaurants across Western North Carolina will participate in the annual “Cookie for a Cure” campaign to help in the fight against cancer. All October long, local SUBWAY® restaurants will serve a special raspberry cheesecake cookie and donate a percentage of cookie sales, up to $3,000, to Komen Northwest NC.
As part of the campaign, the Novant Health mobile mammography unit will be on site Monday, Oct. 24, at the Oakley Plaza SUBWAY® restaurant located at 801 Fairview Road in Asheville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for walk-in appointments. You must have a primary care doctor in order to participate.
According to Susan G. Komen Northwest NC staff, catching breast cancer in the early stages provides the highest survival ratings (see komen.org). Guests who stop by for breast cancer screenings will be treated to a free raspberry cheesecake cookie.
“One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and Komen Northwest NC helps support these individuals locally,” said Brandi Hillman, local owner for SUBWAY® restaurants. “We thank the community for helping us raise money to bring encouragement and hopefully save lives.”
Through the 2015 campaign, SUBWAY® sub shops across North Carolina were able to donate $33,885 to the state’s local affiliates of Susan G. Komen.
Komen Northwest NC currently serves 22 counties throughout Central and Western North Carolina. It has granted more than $6.3 million to local health organizations since 2001 for breast health education, screenings and non-medical treatment support. Seventy five percent of funds raised by Komen Northwest NC stay in the local community and the other 25 percent supports breast cancer research.
“We are thrilled to have our local SUBWAY sub shops partner with us once again to help raise awareness and dollars for local impact,” said Diana Parrish, executive director of Komen Northwest NC. “We invite everyone to stop by their local SUBWAY and support the Cookie for a Cure campaign.”
