Dr. Mary Perkins: Volunteer of the Month
Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month, Dr. Mary T. Perkins! Mary has served as a vital member of the Board of Directors since 2011. The leadership roles that she has filled include Vice President from 2012 to 2014 and President from 2014 to March 31, 2016. Mary continues to serve on our Board of Directors after completing her term as President.
In addition to the incredible work that Mary has accomplished while on the Board, she also served on the African American Outreach Taskforce. Mary and the other taskforce members brainstormed the best ways to address breast health in the African American communities in Northwest NC. The Taskforce culminated in the creation of the African American Outreach Committee, for which they recruited members and established a mission statement and goals.
Mary also participates annually the Race for the Cure as the captain of the “Fabulous Fearless Fighters.” Every year, Mary and her team are top fundraisers for the Race, inspiring others to Race with us in the fight against breast cancer.
In addition to her time spent with Komen NWNC, Mary is also a gracious volunteer for other organizations. Mary serves on the UNCSA Board of Trustees, and she also oversees the Church Garden. In her personal time, Mary loves to travel.
