Fans organize Baity’s Music Garden Reunion show to be held at Ziggy’s in Winston-Salem

On Friday, February 19, Ziggy’s in Winston-Salem (170 W 9th St, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27101) will be hosting A Baity’s Benefit Reunion show at 7 p.m. This event is being held to honor the thousands of fans and musicians that visited Baity’s Music Garden in the 1980s and 1990s. This particular event will be a benefit for Susan G. Komen Northwest NC in memory of Sherri Roberts Biallis (2008) and Joan Marie Barrett (2013). In addition, the show is being dedicated to Peggy “Ma Baity” Ring, and Ralph Blanco, both of whom were part of the Baity’s family and friends and lost to other forms of cancer.

The lineup of musicians includes fan favorites that have all played at Baity’s in the past. The bands include: Wicked Wayz, Suicide King/David Reavis Band, Circus Baby, Typsy Gypsy, and Still of the Night (a Whitesnake Tribute band). Members of Circus Baby and Typsy Gypsy have not played together in about 25 years and are reuniting for this event. Also performing will be Al Yountz, a Winston Salem native and nationally renowned comedian who now resides at Oak Island, NC, performing a 30-minute comedy act. Host and MC will be Robert Fleischman from Chicago, Illinois, formerly lead singer of Journey.

Admission is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at Ziggyrock.net and a couple other surprise locations that are announced on the Baity’s Music Garden Reunion Central Facebook page.

Event organizer, Cathy Pighini, worked at Baity’s for the majority of the years it was open. When Pighini announced her idea about the benefit, two people immediately stepped up and offered to volunteer in any way they could. Ian McCurdy, who will be the stage manager, and Jimmie Vaden, who designed all promotional flyers, have both donated time and talent and have been invaluable to Pighini.

The event started with wanting to remember dear friends that were lost to breast cancer,” Pighini said. “A fundraiser to benefit Susan G. Komen in their memory seemed appropriate. My original thought was to do this as a 1980s themed event, but since I’ve never done anything like this, I was unsure as to where to begin.  So, I just talked about it to a few friends, mentioned it in casual company, and tossed the idea to a few that were interested, then eventually found out about a Facebook page created by Johnny Moser, a fan of the bygone era of Baity’s Music Garden. Once I signed on to that page, it was on! I think membership went from about 200 to almost 2,000 in the last couple of months. I announced what I wanted to do, and the fans, friends and family of Baity’s Music Garden were on board giving great suggestions, and showing 100% support!”

“This event was organized entirely online and with the support of all the members of the Baity’s Music Garden of Winston Salem Reunion Central Facebook page,” Pighini explained. “All the bands and entertainers are donating their talents to show their support of breast cancer awareness and their love of a bygone era of the best rock club ever.”
