Local Resources for You

Susan G. Komen Northwest NC is the local source for funding breast cancer detection, support and educational awareness in our 22-county service area. To learn more about how these programs and services are selected for funding, click here.

If you or a loved one has specific needs for assistance, please contact us so we can offer our support.  We are glad to match you with a Face of Breast Cancer if you’d like someone to talk to who can understand your journey.  If you have transportation, personal assistance, or housecleaning needs, we can refer you to a community organization to support you.

Cancer Services

Cancer Services is a community organization that provides education, personal assistance, patient advocacy, resources, and a sense of compassion to those affected by cancer.  As a current Komen Northwest NC grantee, Cancer Services provides financial assistance to breast cancer survivors in all 22 counties.  On the whole, Cancer Services offers a wide range of services that greatly support cancer patients, survivors, friends, and family.  Please visit their website to learn more about their programs and services.

BCCCP Program 

There is at least one National Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCCP)  in each of the 22 counties Komen Northwest NC serves. This program assists in paying for screening and diagnostic services if needed.  For more information, please visit the NC BCCCP website.

SECU Family House

The SECU Family House on the Richard J. Reynolds, III & Marie M. Reynolds Campus provides affordable lodging and support services in a caring environment for referred adult patients and/or their caregivers who travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for medical treatment.  For more information, visit their website.


Komen Northwest NC recommends that you get screened.  

  • Ask your doctor which screening tests are right for you if you are at a higher risk.  
  • Have a mammogram every year starting at age 40 if you are at average risk.  
  • Have a clinical breast exam at least every 3 years starting at age 20, and every year starting at age 40.

Financial hardships should not stop you from being screened. If you are a resident in the Susan G. Komen®Northwest NC service area, there may be help.

Komen Northwest NC funds mammography screening and diagnostic services throughout our 22 county service area. For local screening options, please review our current grant recipients. Many offer free or low cost screening through a Komen Northwest NC grant.
