Meet the Staff 


Michael McKinney, M.A., NPM – Executive Director

Michael comes to Komen Northwest NC with prior senior-level nonprofit and financial management experience. He has a Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management with a concentration in Leadership from High Point University; and studied for his Master of Science in Banking and Finance Management at Boston University. 

McKinney brings 20 years of executive-level banking experience with extensive knowledge in financial management and acquisition. He began his fight against cancer five years ago with American Cancer Society as Sr. Market Manager after he lost his father to cancer.

McKinney has a proven track record in raising millions of dollars for other nonprofit organizations, such as the International Civil Rights Museum of Greensboro, and Bennett College for Women.  His background in finance,  nonprofit management, and  generating sizable fundraising dollars, coupled with his passion for the cause within the local community, makes him a great fit for this position.

Megan Wood – Community Engagement Director

Megan Wood

A Winston-Salem native, Megan joined the team in April 2013 as the Event Coordinator for the Affiliate.  She comes from a non-profit background specializing in event planning and sponsorship management.  She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and then went on to complete her MBA at East Carolina University.  Her free time is spent enjoying time with her husband, Chris, and her black lab, Emma.  For fun she loves to travel, play tennis, and shop for Lilly clothing.



Ebony Pratt – Community Outreach Coordinator – East

Ebony joined the Komen Northwest NC team as an intern in January 2014. A graduate of UNC Greensboro, Ebony is now the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Affiliate. Ebony’s favorite thing about working at Komen Northwest NC is meeting the survivors and hearing their stories. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, hanging out with friends & family and traveling.


Brittany Garrett – Community Outreach Coordinator – West

Brittany joined Komen Northwest NC in April 2016 as the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Affiliate’s western counties.  A Mooresville native and East Carolina University graduate, Brittany became passionate about Komen after interning for the Charlotte Affiliate in 2015.  Her favorite thing about working at Komen Northwest NC is seeing the impact made in individuals’ lives on a daily basis.  In her spare time Brittany likes to spoil her husky puppy, go to the beach, and spend time with her friends and family.


Wendy Harless – Finance Assistant0815161611-1

A southwestern Virginia native, Wendy joined the Komen NWNC team in June 2016 as the Finance Assistant for the Affiliate.  She comes from both a healthcare and business background.  Wendy completed her undergraduate degree at George Mason University, attended Hollins University for graduate school, and obtained her RN degree in Winston-Salem.  She became passionate about educating the community as a volunteer for the Affiliate in 2015.  In her spare time, Wendy enjoys zumba, yoga, hiking with her family, and gardening.


Pam Hill – Development AssistantPam

A native of Surry County, Pam is new to Komen NW NC as of July 2016.  Pam has worked with local non-profits for over 15 years specializing in information management and event planning.  Being out of the non-profit world for years, she is excited about getting back to such rewarding work.  Pam has been married for over 22 years and has two boys that keep her very busy.  When not busy with her family, Pam enjoys gardening in her spare time.


Kendyl Trevena – Marketing and Graphics Consultant

Kendyl joined the Komen Northwest NC team as an intern in May 2014.  A graduate of High Point University, Kendyl is now the Marketing and Graphics Specialist for the Affiliate.  Kendyl’s commitment to our mission and work goes far beyond anything we have ever experienced.  She is a gem with so much talent!
